Distinguished guests, friends, and colleagues — thank you for your interest in Jiyutaido and in the work of the International Jiyutaido Federation (IJF).
Jiyutaido is a modern combat sport whose name reflects its spirit: the way of freestyle engagement — open in principle, rigorous in practice, and respectful of the wider martial arts community. The discipline integrates a strong technical foundation with structured rules, systematic physical preparation, and a clear emphasis on mindset and values.
The system was developed from a professional lifetime in sport, with deep roots in Kyokushin karate under the legacy of Sōsai Masutatsu Oyama, complemented by the wrestling traditions of Azerbaijan and refined through long-term technical research. Japanese terminology is used deliberately to honour that lineage and to preserve a coherent international vocabulary for coaches, athletes, and officials.
Jiyutaido is offered in two competitive formats designed to be accessible while remaining demanding. Version S integrates elements and rules drawn from striking and grappling disciplines. Version T integrates elements and rules drawn from boxing-oriented striking and grappling.
Across both formats, the rules aim to be understandable for athletes from different backgrounds, while maintaining fairness, safety, and sporting integrity.
Today, Jiyutaido is practised and promoted in multiple countries, including Russia, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Iraq, and Türkiye. The IJF's mission is to strengthen national federations, support education and refereeing standards, and expand ethical, well-governed competition — always in the service of public health, youth development, and friendship among nations.
We welcome dialogue with athletes, coaches, officials, and organisations from every discipline. If you would like to learn more or explore cooperation, please contact us through the federation website or by email.
With respect and appreciation for your attention.
